September 2024 will go down in history as a month of extremes for Hong Kong. Residents experienced a combination of heavy rainfall and unseasonably high temperatures, making it the third hottest September on record. This unusual weather is a warning for everyone, from students to policymakers, about the changes happening of our environment. <\/span><\/p><\/div>

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, average temperatures reached an  unbelievably 29.8 degrees Celsius this September. On top of that, the city received more than 600 millimeters of rain\u2014over 150% of the average for the month. This kind of weather isn’t just unusual, it’s alarming. It raises concerns about how climate change is affecting our daily lives and the environment we live in. <\/span><\/p><\/div>

Many people have heard about climate change, but what does it really mean?  Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. While the Earth’s climate has always gone through changes, human activities, like burning fossil fuels and deforestation are speeding up these changes. <\/span><\/p><\/div>

In Hong Kong, we are already seeing the results. The city has experienced hotter summers and more intense rainfall in the past years.
